2022 Lesson 12: Burglar Inside Residence & Infant Not Breathing

This one-hour training helps prepare 9-1-1 dispatchers for calls involving residential burglaries and infants who are not breathing. In the first section, an elderly woman reports suspects breaking into her home.  Section one addresses:

  • Safety for nonmobile people on the scene of a burglary.

  • Obtaining a layout of a residence to aid responders.

  • Determining if callers are armed.

  • Obtaining suspect descriptions.

  • Advising callers not to confront suspects.

  • Aiding callers in disarming before law enforcement arrives.

In the second section, a caller reports than an infant is not breathing. The lesson addresses:

  • Aiding callers who are providing first aid.

  • Establishing why an infant is not breathing.

  • Using persistent repetition to maintain a caller’s attention.

  • Using active listening skills to recognize dangerous instructions given by bystanders.

  • Using “action with reason” statements.
