PLS Jail Pro
2020 Lesson 0: Primer
This lesson will prepare the lesson taker to take the monthly Jail Pro legal update lessons. These lessons are based lawsuits (“Target Cases”) brought by inmates against county jail officials (jailers, jail supervisors, correctional officers, sheriffs, jail administrators, etc.) that reached the federal appellate courts (either the U.S. Supreme Court or one of the circuit court of appeals). The lesson explains basic legal terms, the legal basis upon which most jail lawsuits rely, and the different courts where lawsuits against counties and jail officials are filed and where their outcomes are determined.
