IOWA ONLINE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING

PLS has provided monthly, interactive, state-specific online training for Iowa law enforcement officials for over 17 years. 

PLS online training keeps officers current on recent and relevant state and federal court cases that directly impact their effectiveness in enforcing the law and in avoiding unnecessary liability exposure.

LESSON PACKAGES

Package A:
16-Hour Package with Bias Prevention & De-Escalation

16-hours of online training (including bias prevention and de-escalation) comprised of:

  • at least 4 hours of legal update training, based on recent cases from the Iowa Supreme Court, the Iowa Court of Appeals, the U.S. Supreme Court, and the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals;

  • 1 hour of legal update training based on recent Iowa legislation;

  • 1 hour of mental health training per 501 IAC 8.1(4)(b);

  • 4 hours of bias prevention and de-escalation training per Iowa Code § 80B.11G & 501 IAC 8.1(6);

  • other applicable training.

Package B:
12-Hour Package without Bias Prevention & De-Escalation

12-hours of online training (not including bias prevention and de-escalation) comprised of: 

  • at least 4 hours of legal update training, based on recent cases from the Iowa Supreme Court, the Iowa Court of Appeals, the U.S. Supreme Court, and the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals;

  • 1 hour of legal update training based on recent Iowa legislation;

  • 1 hour of mental health training per 501 IAC 8.1(4)(b);

  • other applicable training.

This package does not include bias prevention and de-escalation training.

Package C:
12-Hour Package with Bias Prevention & De-Escalation

12 Hours of online training (including bias prevention and de-escalation) comprised of:

  • at least 4 hours of legal update training, based on recent cases from the Iowa Supreme Court, the Iowa Court of Appeals, the U.S. Supreme Court, and the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals;

  • 1 hour of legal update training based on recent Iowa legislation;

  • 1 hour of mental health training per 501 IAC 8.1(4)(b);

  • 4 hours of bias prevention and de-escalation training per Iowa Code § 80B.11G & 501 IAC 8.1(6);

  • other applicable training.

Optional Add-Ons

Agencies may elect to add any of the following lessons to their packages.

  • Bloodborne Pathogens* (1 hour)

  • Hazardous Materials & Hazard Communication (2 hours)

PLS has obtained Iowa Law Enforcement Academy approval of the following curriculum: bloodborne pathogens; hazardous materials & hazard communication; mental health; bias prevention and de-escalation.

  • Civil rights claims under 42 U.S.C. section 1983.
